Essential Functions

An incumbent assigned this classification will perform some or all of the following universal essential functions approximately 95 percent of his/her time:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB TYPICAL % ALLOCATION
Function: The researcher will analyze research data and maintain the records of various experimental procedures. He/she will conduct/assist with experimental research procedures under the supervision of others. The researcher will help maintain laboratory research equipment, operate equipment, and perform quality control procedures such as genotyping.
Performance Standards: All necessary reagents and supplies should be made or ordered in anticipation of need. The lab materials and all samples should be kept organized, well-labeled and easy to locate. Trainees become competent in said tasks.
50% of job
Function: The researcher will perform animal husbandry under the instruction of the PI, and maintaining records of the locations and types of materials used in research.
Performance Standards: The employee is expected to adhere to established protocols. He/ she should also use care to perform work with precision and accuracy, and employ appropriate safety precautions.
30% of job
Function: Keeps records, enters data and completes analyses, attends lab meeting, journal clubs and seminars of interest.
Performance Standards: A detailed account of methods used, experiments performed, and data collected is expected of the employee. All data generated should be provided to the principal investigator in both electronic form and hard copy. Employee also analyzes the data and writes “Methods” section of manuscripts or abstracts.

Function: Performs other duties as required or requested, whether or not specifically listed on this job description.
Performance Standards: Exhibits a willingness to learn new tasks. Seeks the assistance of supervisor prior to beginning an unfamiliar assignment.
